| The Benefit of Sensitivity (2017) – Link temporarily disabled due to revisions in progress

‍Abstract: I argue that there are explanatory advantages to reading the Socratic virtue of ‘σωφροσύνη’ as ‘sensitivity’, rather than as ‘self-control’ or ‘temperance’. In this paper, I advocate for my preferred translation of the Greek word, and contest the hegemony of the standard/conventional interpretation(s).
